Jim Parsons weighs in on possible ‘Big Bang Theory’ sequel to reprise Sheldon Cooper role

Jim Parsons considers the possibility of there being more Sheldon Cooper in the future if a sequel to The Big Bang Theory never materializes.

The actor was recently asked in an interview what it would take for him to reprise the role of Sheldon Cooper.

“Reincarnation,” he said in an interview with E! News. “Next life.”

He continued: “Never say never to anything. Life is long, God willing, but I don’t think so.

Parsons played Sheldon in 12 seasons of the CBS sitcom. He recently reprized his role in Young Sheldon series finale, a prequel to The Big Bang Theory.

“It was very special to do that,” he said. “The feeling today is rather strange. This is the second time now because when we finished The Big Bang Theory it was like that too, a little different, but you shoot that last episode and it’s over for you. And then a few months later it ends for the rest of the world and it’s a very strange feeling to come over you like that again.

Parsons recounted Young Sheldon throughout the life of the show. Following the single-camera sitcom’s finale, executive producer Steve Holland discussed the idea of bringing back Parsons and Mayim Bialik.

“I think in the back of our minds, it was always what we wanted. Definitely Jim, because he told the whole story,” Holland told Deadline in an interview. “As we were getting to the finale, I think Chuck Lorre had floated the idea of bringing Mayim and Jim back, which was really exciting and so much fun.”

He continued: “But then it was like a balancing act for us. We wanted to make sure we honored this casting and didn’t let adults Sheldon and Amy dominate the final episode. I’m really happy with the balance we found. I think Jim and Mayim are in it a lot, but I think the Cooper family still has their moment to shine.
