“I do not compare the marine pen with Jesus Christ but it is innocent and I too,” said Gollnisch.
The 75-year-old man, a former ally close to the father of the Pen, Jean-Marie, said that the verdict meant “the end of democracy in France” and compared the fate of the PEN to that of the Ultranationalist Romanian Călin Georgescu. Georgescu was disqualified to present himself to the presidency after the high -level court of his country found the funding of unconvolved campaign and the fraudulent use of digital technologies, with an alleged Russian operation considered to have influenced the result.
Asked about the risk of bursting violence following the verdict, Gollnisch said that the French were “very peaceful people, and I may think a little too peaceful”.
Monday’s verdict saw Le Pen immediately prevented himself from standing from the public service for five years, which probably took hope of presenting himself to the presidency in 2027.
The conviction sparked a burst of strong reactions from the Pen allies to the country and abroad. The two presidents of the Rallye National Jordan Bardella, who should intervene if Le Pen cannot arise, and Sébastien Chenu, a party vice-president, said that Le Pen’s ban on the presidency was undemocratic.
Le Pen – who, in 2013, argued that elected officials were sentenced to “actions taken following their mandates” should be prohibited from presenting themselves to a lifetime public service – appealed the decision of the court and continues to refuse any reprehensible act.
