Jennifer Love Hewitt says that male television hosts sexualized her in adolescence

Jennifer Love Hewitt was the last guest on the Podcast “Breakdown” by Mayim Bialik (via Us Weekly) and recalled how it was only when she was in the thirties that she recorded how much the media sexualized her in adolescence. The actor obtained his breakthrough on the titles “Party of Five” and “I know what you did last summer”, which were both released with fanfare when Hewitt was 16 to 18 years old.

“In the thirties, I returned and I looked at that time and I said to myself:” Oh my God “,” said Hewitt. “There were adult men who spoke to me at 16 of my breasts just openly in a talk show, and people laughed at it. I don’t even remember it. I really did not take this part, but with hindsight, it was really strange, I think that to become a sexual symbol in a way for people before I even know what it was. »»

Hewitt “did not even know what sexy meant” for a period of time when she was constantly objectified by the media, adding: “I was on the cover of the Maxim magazines, and people were mounting openly and say to me:” I am I took your magazine with me on a trip last week. I didn’t know what it meant, you know what I mean? It’s a bit disgusting. I think that later, it struck me, in a way, the things I probably went through somewhere. But at the time, it was very innocent and exciting and fun. »»

“I know what you did last summer” was a huge success at the box office in 1997, winning $ 125 million worldwide. After the film’s release, Hewitt said people had started to make jokes, like: “Oh, I know what your breasts did last summer.”

“Everyone laughed, and so I laughed because it was supposed to be funny, I suppose,” said Hewitt. “He did not register with me that he was an adult who was talking about my breasts on national television.”

“By the way, I don’t blame them to ask the questions or do the jokes or do it,” she continued. “It was a fully accepted culture. They were allowed to believe it was appropriate, I answered the questions, I laughed. I have no problem with them to do it. But when you sit down and look where we are now against it, it’s really breathtaking.

Variety Confirmed last December that Hewitt returns as Julie James in the next restart of “I Know What You Do You Doy Last”, directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. She joins the original co-star Freddie Prinze Jr. to return to the franchise, which will see new distribution additions like Chase Su Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, Jonah Haur-King, Lola Tung and Nicholas Alexander Chaveez. Sony Pictures will release the film in theaters on July 18.
