Concord, NC – Jeff Gordon leaves no doubt. Kyle Larson will Be in Charlotte Motor Speedway to start Coca-Cola 600 Sunday.
Gordon, the vice-president of Hendrick Motorsports, said on Saturday that Larson “was going to be there for the presentations of pilots at 5:25 (PM and). This is the call.”
This would put Larson – trying to become the second pilot in 20 years to participate in Indy 500 and Coke 600 on the same day – in Charlotte an hour before the start of the and 6:27 pm for one of the Nascar Nascar races.
This is the second consecutive year that Larson tried to run the two races on the same day – and perhaps the last for a near future.
Several challenges, including a new Nascar rule, make the feat of running in these signature races on the same day much more difficult.
Last year, a four-hour rain period in Indianapolis created questions about the fact that Larson would leave for Coca-Cola 600. He stayed in Indianapolis and finished 18th. Larson arrived in Charlotte after the half of this race. The rain stopped the event before he could enter his car and take over for Justin Allgaier.

Larson cannot afford to miss the start of the Coca-Cola 600. Nascar, after the debate, granted Larson a derogation from the playoffs last year, but the head of the series instituted a new rule this season.
Article 12.4.2.1.A of the Book of Cup rules indicates that “unless otherwise authorized by Nascar, Driver (s) and team owners must start and try to finish all the championship races to be eligible for the playoffs.
A new part of this section can be read as follows: “If a driver does not start and does not try to finish a race and wishes to remain eligible for the playoffs, this driver must request a derogation from the playoffs via the derogation of the playoffs.
