Since its launch, Megayacht of the billionaire Jeff Bezos has been the subject of great controversy. The last concerns the visit of the Amazon founder in Monaco. Quite simply, the huge boat was not allowed to dock.
When you have a fortune valued at more than $ 220 billion, the purchase of a megayacht of $ 500 million does not represent much. The problem is that this type of seas giant pollutes enormously, both ecologically and visually. And even in a place where luxury is everywhere, like Monaco, Jeff Bezos could not moor his megayacht named Koru in the port of the Principality.
For Jeff Bezos, size is important, and it is sometimes a problem
The billionaire went to Monaco with his future wife Lauren Sanchez to attend the Formula 1 Grand Prix, which takes place in May. And lately, the couple began to travel at sea rather than air. Koru approached the port of Monaco in the middle of last week. However, the port authorities quickly asked him to stay where he was.
And the reason? Simple: Jeff Bezos’ big boat is too large to be moored in the port of Monaco. It measures 127 meters long, 17.2 meters wide and has masts 70 meters high. For comparison, the maximum length of a football field is 120 meters. No wonder the principality wanted to keep him away from the marina, but that did not prevent her from drawing attention.
A recurring problem for the billionaire
As a result, Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez had to go to Monaco in a simple speed boat, leaving their outside sign of (large) wealth floating a few hundred meters from the port. But that did not prevent them from attending the Monaco Grand Prix in VIP conditions.
The situation should not have surprised the billionaire. He plans to marry his fiancée in a city of Venice transformed for the occasion, and has already been informed by the local authorities that his ship will not be able to approach the city of the Doges because of its indecent size. But that does not prevent the couple from traveling through the world with him.
In recent weeks, it has been spotted off the coast of Spain, Saint-Tropez and Cannes, where Lauren Sanchez has received a prize. Lauren Sanchez, partner of Jeff Bezos, received a prize for his environmental commitment to the Global Gift Gala. A rather ironic situation when you consider that the journalist travels with his partner in a megayacht who, despite three large sails, must regularly count on a diesel engine to move forward.
