It is indeed a torn Achilles tendon for Jayson Tatum.
After the Celtics All-Star were helped outside the Madison Square Garden field on Monday evening without putting weight on his right foot, Tatum underwent surgery for a rupture of Achille on Tuesday, according to the team. His season is over and next year could be in doubt.
Tatum is not the first high -level basketball player to tear an Achilles, although 27 years old, it is one of the youngest.
All injuries are different, recovery times can vary and there are various grades of Achilles tears. However, for the stars of the NBA put aside for an extended period, it is often a grade 3 tear, which is the full rupture of the Achilles. Either the majority or all the fibers have torn apart.

Often considered the gold stallion in Achille rebounded on the back, during resumed where he had stopped when he returned to court, with an average of 26.9 points, 6.7 rebounds and 5.6 assists. The recovery chronology of Durant seems particularly long, but it was affected by a delayed start of the 2020 season due to the Pandemic COVID-19.
Klay Thompson
Age to injury: 30
Date of tear: November 18, 2020
Back to the game: January 8, 2022 (about 14 months)
Thompson’s Achilles injury is more complicated than most, because it occurred in a collection match because it is rehabilitated from a tear in the LCA. His production was similar on his return from the two injuries in 2022, helping to raise the Warriors after the Celtics for the fourth title of the NBA of Thompson.
Kobe Bryant
Age to injury: 34
Date of tear: April 12, 2013
Back to the game: December 8, 2013 (about 8 months)
Bryant’s body began to break down with Achilles’ injury, and the 2012-13 season marked the last time that the legend was making an all-NBA team. Upon his return (quickly) in 2014, Bryant underwent a side fracture of the Tibial plateau after only six games and was sidelined for the rest of the season.
Dominique Wilkins
Age: 32
Date of tear: January 18, 1992
Back to the game: November 6, 1992 (about 10 months)
The first tear of high level Achilles, Wilkins was sidelined for 10 months with the injury, but did not miss a beat on his return. The fame of fame ended fifth in the MVP vote in its first season, with an average of 29.9 points per game, 6.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists. Although it’s more than three decades ago, the restoration of Wilkins is encouraging for Tatum.
