11:00 am: Interior player Inmanuel Valdez Also has undergone surgery at the end of the season this week, Tomczyk tells Pirates Beat (via Colin Beazley de la Post-Gazette). Valdez struck the list of wounded 10 days due to inflammation in his left shoulder (non-launch) on May 10. He was transferred to the 60 -day IL a few days later with a minimum of updates on his prospects. It should now be sidelined for about six months.
10:52 am: Right pirates Jared Jones Will undergo end-of-season surgery to contact his right-in-law in difficulty, announced this morning, principal director of sports medicine, Todd Tomczyk in Pirates (link via Noah Hiles du Pittsburgh Post-Gazette).
Jones was released all season with an elbow injury. The training assessments in the spring did not lead to a recommendation of surgery, but Jones recently met Dr. Keith Meister – an orthopedic surgeon who carried out dozens of Tommy John procedures for MLB players – After his return to launch at the end of April, apparently did not go well.
It is not yet known what type of surgery will be done, but as Jones is dealing with a UCL sprain, Tommy John surgery and an internal agitation procedure are probably on the table. Jones goes under the knife today, so more information on the nature of surgery and its calendar for a return should be available in the coming days.
Jones, 23, entered the 2024 season classified as a consensual hope among the 50 in the Sport camp and broke the rotation of the pirates. He ended up launching 121 1/3 rounds and more than his, recording an MPM of 4.14 with a 26.2% withdrawal rate and a walking rate of 7.7% – both a little better than the average of the league.
These figures are a bit biased by a difficult finish in the season. Jones sported an average deserved racing of 3.56 much stronger in 91 rounds with comparable rate statistics. A LAT tension suffered in early July cost Jones six weeks from its recruit season. Upon his return at the end of August, he drink to an MPM of 5.87 in his last six departures.
Even with this slow finish, the scene seemed ready to team up with Jones Paul Skenes And Mitch Keller To form the nucleus of an exceptional rotation for the years to come. This trio, with the best hope Bubba Chandler Before Triple-A, gives BUCS an enviable nucleus of high-end pitching around which to build. This is still the case, but Jones’ inclusion in the group will be delayed at least at the beginning of 2026 and perhaps until the last stages of next season, depending on the type of surgery he finally needs.
Pittsburgh does not lack promising young arms even beyond the notification indicated so far. Right -handed Thomas Harrington And Braxton Ashcraft are both very appreciated. Twenty-five Mike Burrows was recalled after a strong departure in Triple-A this season and will start the match of tomorrow in the right-wing place Carmen Mlodzinskiwhich was optionized to minors after a raw section to start the season. In general, the BUCs are deeply in young and high speed weapons but lack this same type of talent on the side of positions of position. Oneil Cruz And Joey Bart Are the only thick-ups higher than average on the alignment of the Big League of Pirates this season, and most of the bats on which they have marked their hopes throughout this reconstruction have not developed as hoped for.
As for Valdez, he came to the pirates in a December exchange with the Red Sox. Boston had appointed it for assignment and returned it to Pittsburgh in exchange for a minor league right Joe Vogatsky. Valdez started the season decently, reaching .227 / .329 / .424 (108 WRC +) in April while playing a part -time role. He spent time at the first goal, to the second goal and (very briefly) in the right field along the way. However, the 26 -year -old did not succeed for four strokes for his next 26 marble trips before landing on the injured list. Its season will end with a line .209 / .294 / .363 (82 WRC +) in 102 plaques appearances.
Jones and Valdez will spend the rest of the season on the 60 -day injured list, accumulating the service time for major leagues and will pay along the way. The two players entered the season with more than one major league service and will cross the two -year threshold during the rehabilitation of surgeries. They will both be under the control of the team for four additional seasons, although as a DFA pick -up out of season, Valdez to stand with the team is obviously more tenuous than that of Jones – a former second round choice and a superior hope which is considered a fundamental element of the future of the team.
Valdez will have a minor league option which remains beyond the current season, but it is possible that it is removed from the list of 40 men at the end of the season to give the BUCs greater flexibility of alignment before winter.
