Jared Fogle, the “Subway Guy,” makes sandwiches in the prison kitchen

Disgraced Subway sandwich vendor Jared Fogle went from hawking sandwiches on TV to making them in prison. But the convicted sex offender still has nearly five years left on his sentence.

Fogle, now 46, has been locked up at FCI Englewood, a minimum-security federal prison outside Littleton, Colorado, since 2016 after admitting to soliciting a minor for sex and keeping a trove of child pornography.

Upon his arrival at the facility, he was assigned to the kitchen, where he prepared and distributed lunches to other inmates.

“It was kind of a joke,” said Pat Gannon, a former inmate who was incarcerated at the facility until 2021. “The guy from Subway handing out grilled cheese sandwiches. We laughed about it.”

Over the past eight years, Fogle has worked a variety of jobs, including janitorial and groundskeeping. But more recently, the Post has learned, Fogle has returned to his job as a cook.

According to the FCI Englewood Inmate Admission and Orientation Manual, the kitchen begins serving breakfast at 6:00 a.m. Lunch is available at various noon times, and dinner is served after all inmates are counted at 4:00 p.m.

Fogle spearheaded a successful advertising campaign for Subway after revealing he had lost 250 pounds by eating sandwiches at almost every meal. He earned millions of dollars in personal appearances and endorsement deals.

But in 2015, authorities received a tip that the perverted salesman was involved in the sexual exploitation of minors.

Police raided Fogle’s home and discovered some 400 child pornography videos in his possession. Prosecutors say he often solicited escorts to “allow him access to minors between the ages of 14 and 15.”

Fogle pleaded guilty in August 2015 to child pornography and paying for sex with a minor after traveling from Indiana to New York. He was sentenced to 15 years and eight months in prison.

In a 2021 handwritten letter obtained by the Post, Fogle acknowledged that he was solely responsible for his incarceration.

“I really made a huge mistake to get where I am,” the father of two wrote. “I was selfish and thought I had rights… All I can do is learn from my mistakes so I can be a better man when I’m released in a few years.”

For now, Fogle is destitute, spending less than $300 a month at the prison commissary. He is no longer represented by his expensive legal team. He spends most of his time watching television, writing letters or sending emails through the prison’s email system, according to former inmates at the prison.

Fogle fought repeatedly to have his sentence reduced, but without success.

He will have to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence. According to Federal Bureau of Prisons records, he will not be eligible for release until March 24, 2029.

He will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
