Actress and Hollywood legend Jane Fonda has warned Jennifer Lopez against filming her romance with Ben Affleck, expressing serious concerns about the sustainability of their union after spending two decades apart.
Speaking to Jlo, 54, the Oscar winner who met the singer and actress around 20 years ago while they were filming the romantic comedy Monster-in-Law together in 2005 said: ” First of all, I want you to know that I don’t really know why, but I feel invested in you and Ben and I really, really want this to work.
“However, that is my concern,” adds Fonda. “Like it’s too much like you’re trying to prove something instead of just living it.” Every other photo is the two of you kissing and hugging.
Fonda, 86, expressed her reservations when Lopez approached her for a role in his music documentary, The Greatest Love Story Ever Told.
The 90-minute film was released in February as part of three works centered on her breakup and reunion with Affleck, 51.

Jlo was so committed to the project that she invested $20 million of her own money when studios and streaming platforms abandoned it.
But, in concerns that now seem all too prescient, Fonda initially turned down the offer to play a cameo role as a member of the Zodiac lawyer who bears witness to Jlo’s disastrous romantic choices throughout the action in This is Me Now.
Jlo’s efforts to persuade her to reconsider her decision are featured in The Greatest Love Story Ever Told, which shows the phone call in which Fonda explains the reasons for his death.
Earlier, Jlo’s manager Benny Medina expressed Fonda’s deep concerns.
He said: “She called me and said, ‘I believe that everyone in the whole world yearns for this love and the idea of how you present it is so sacrosanct and so important that she should be treated the way you are.” I don’t flaunt it too much to the point of creating any form of criticism or resentment. My biggest concern is that critics and people lash out to her in any way.
Jlo dismissed Fonda’s concerns and eventually convinced her to take on the role.
But the Hollywood legend’s warning appears to reflect somewhat of the unease expressed by Affleck himself when he noted his and his wife’s very different attitudes toward social media and the very public sharing of what , for him, is their private life.

But just two years later, divorce rumors and signs of marital strife abound. Affleck has moved out of the couple’s $60 million Los Angeles home, and even if J Lo stays there alone, he is reportedly back on the market.
Meanwhile, Jlo abruptly pulled out of her upcoming tour, telling fans she was doing it to spend more time with “close ones and family.”
And although she posted a sweet Father’s Day tribute to Affleck on Instagram on Sunday, saying “Our hero,” it’s unclear if the two spent the day together.
Affleck’s ex Jennifer Garner, 52, with whom he has three children, was seen visiting him at his Brentwood home on Sunday, while Jlo was spotted visiting the day before.
And where once, as Fonda pointed out, all the other photos of Affleck and J Lo hugging and kissing PDA have been noticeably absent from their recent appearances, with Affleck appearing miserable and their body language tense.
Even when she accepted the role in The Greatest Love Story Ever Told, Fonda admitted to Jlo that she became concerned when footage from the Grammys apparently showed her chastising Affleck for looking down and bored in March 2023 .
Fonda said: “I got really scared, you know, with all this bullshit about the Grammys and he looks unhappy and I’m like, ‘Oh, my God, what’s going on? ” ”
To which Jlo replied with a laugh: “Nothing!” He said: ‘I have become the symbol of the besieged man.’
Affleck appears in his wife’s documentary and does his best to be supportive, but it’s clear he’s deeply uncomfortable putting so much of his private life and marriage into the public eye.

Reflecting on his wife’s very different approach to publicity, Affleck, a former alcoholic, compared his wife’s “addiction” to social media and work to his own struggle with alcohol.
He said: “Jen felt emotionally neglected as a child. We are learning more and more that you don’t have to be locked in a basement for years to leave wounds on you.
“It’s hard to watch someone whose professional life is extremely successful and who, on Instagram, looks like they’re living the happiest life in the world.
“What you find out is that with alcohol, there’s not enough alcohol in all the liquor stores in the world to fill this thing and in Jennifer’s case, I don’t think whether there are enough followers, movies, records or anything like that still that part of you that still feels a longing and a pain. That’s the work you have to do for yourself. .
