Kathua/Jammu:

A police officer died in a hospital on Saturday hours after he was arrested by the CBI on corruption charges in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district, officials said.

Chief Constable Mushtaq Ahmad, a resident of Billawar, was caught in the act of allegedly accepting a Rs 3,000 bribe from a complainant at Kathua Women’s Police Station, where he was affected, officials said.

They said the officer was being questioned in a separate room inside the police station by CBI detectives when he complained of being unwell and was rushed to Government Medical College Hospital (GMC) to be treated there.

However, he died in hospital, officials said, adding that the cause of death was not immediately known.

Station House Police station officer, Kiran Devi, confirmed the death of the officer.

“The officer died shortly after we transferred him to hospital. A detailed report will be shared later,” she told PTI.
