Wrexham manager Humphrey Ker has not ruled out the possibility of the Red Dragons making a bold move for Jamie Vardy, with the striker out of contract at the end of the campaign.

The Welsh club, owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, saw their fairy tale climb up the football pyramid continue this season and enjoyed a second successive promotion.

Phil Parkinson’s side finished second on their return to League Two and will play in the Third Division next season.

To aid their assault on League One, new signings will be targeted and when asked by SPORTbible if Vardy might be someone they could look to bring in, Ker was open to the opportunity.

He said: “There’s nothing to say that Jamie Vardy wouldn’t be a great Wrexham player. It’s not a name I’ve ever said inside the building, but, you know, the age and profile wouldn’t put us off.

Vardy celebrated his own promotion this week, helping Leicester make an instant return to the Premier League by winning the league title at the first attempt.

The 37-year-old scored 20 goals to see the Foxes bounce straight back. However, his contract expires at the end of the season and he is yet to sign a new contract with the club.

Any new deal could mean reduced terms for the Leicester legend, with the club carefully trying to balance their finances ahead of a possible points deduction on his return to the top flight.

The striker joined the King Power Stadium from non-league side Fletwood Town in 2012 and has gone on to have a career straight out of a Hollywood film – ironic given the owner’s eye for his next possible destination.

He helped the club win two promotions to the Premier League, scoring 190 goals in 463 appearances, while being part of Leicester’s FA Cup-winning team in 2021 and the incredible team that won the Premier League against all expectations in 2016.

His exploits for the club saw Vardy gain international recognition, winning 26 England caps and scoring seven goals. While he also won the Premier League Golden Boot in 2020.
