Jamie Foxx Recalls Mysterious Illness, ‘Out for 20 Days’

More than a year later, Jamie Foxx is getting candid about his mysterious health issue that apparently left him in a coma for three weeks.

The Oscar winner shared the story of his April 2023 illness with a group of people on the streets of downtown Phoenix, Arizona, in a video shared on social media Monday.

“Last April 11th, I had a terrible headache and I asked my son for an Advil,” Foxx began in the video, snapping his fingers. “I was gone for 20 days. I don’t remember anything.”

He continued: “I’m in Atlanta, my sister and my daughter took me to the first doctor. He said no, he gave me a cortisone shot. The next doctor said, ‘There’s something going on up there.’ I’m not going to say that on camera.”

Jamie was hospitalized last April following an undisclosed “medical complication” on the Atlanta set of his upcoming Netflix film. Back in action with Cameron Diaz. His daughter Corrine Foxx announced the illness on Instagram the next day, noting that he was “already on the mend.”

A month later, Corrine announced that her father had been “out of the hospital for weeks” and was “even playing pickleball.”

In his first appearance since his hospitalization, Foxx opened up about his experience in his Vanguard Award acceptance speech at the Critics Choice Association’s celebration of film and television honoring Black, Latino and AAPI achievements in December.

Foxx said at the time that he couldn’t “really walk” six months ago, adding: “I want to thank everybody. I went through something, I went through some things.

“I cherish every minute now, it’s different. I wouldn’t wish what I went through on my worst enemy, because it’s hard when it’s almost over… when you see the tunnel. I saw the tunnel, I didn’t see the light,” Foxx said.
