Jamie Carragher has issued a damning assessment of Nottingham Forest’s incredible statement blasting refereeing decisions in Sunday’s defeat to Everton.

Forest have criticized “extremely poor decisions” regarding penalties which were not awarded in their favor during their 2-0 defeat at Goodison Park.

The result had huge implications at the bottom of the table, with the Toffees moving five points clear of the drop while Forest have just one point of respite.

“We warned the PGMOL that the VAR was a Luton fan before the match but they did not change it. Our patience was tested on several occasions. The NFCC will now consider their options.

Responding to the statement, Carragher said: “It tells you where we are in the Premier League when clubs do that,” he said on Sky Sports.

“Stuart Attwell and Anthony Taylor had a horrible day and they should be criticized because it could have real implications.

“But that’s what I just read there on social media. It’s like a fan in a pub.

“It’s embarassing. I feel the frustration. This bullshit about VAR being a Luton fan – they can’t get involved in that. You have to show a bit of class as a football club.

Mail Sport’s Mike Keegan wrote on X: “Unsurprisingly, the FA will investigate Forest’s tweet. While a points deduction is unlikely, a hefty fine is not.

Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo revealed after the match: “I don’t understand the reason for Anthony Taylor and VAR’s decisions because I see the images.

“But it’s a general feeling that stays with us, we try to ignore it and very often it’s about repeating bad decisions against us, without making fun of it.”

“Even if we take things, it is very difficult to control. The players and I are trying to concentrate on football because it has been very hard.

“The situation we find ourselves in doesn’t help, now we have stress and fear but that’s not an excuse. It’s clear what’s happening to us, not only in this match.

“I saw the pictures. It’s hard to take. It’s a pen on Gio Reyna, it’s a kick, it’s a handball and it’s understandable that we are proactive as a club because we want things to go well.

“We don’t want bad referees, we want good decisions. If we lose because of a bad performance we take it, but they are disappointing decisions.
