Maddison’s cheeky post sent fans into a frenzy

Marcelino Nunez’s first-half free-kick was the difference at Carrow Road, ending a run of 15 league games scored by Ipswich.

And former Norwich star Maddison was quick to throw quips, taking to social media to take shots at his old rivals.

He posted on X: “Just in case anyone needs reminding…East Anglia is and always will be yellow and green. 15 years now?”

Maddison was referring to the astonishing fact that Ipswich have not beaten their rivals since 2009.

The Tottenham star is still a fan favorite in the yellow half of East Anglia, where he played for two years – although one of those seasons was on loan at Aberdeen.

In 2017/18, Maddison played 49 times for the Canaries where he scored 15 goals and led them to promotion to the Premier League.

And Norwich fans showed their love for their former player, including famous Canaries supporter Jake Humphrey, who replied: “I love that from you.”

Another fan replied: “We will always love you Madders, can’t wait to see you smash the Euros!!!”

With Ipswich top of the table at the time, this could hamper their ambitions of playing in the Premier League next season.

A late win for Leicester knocked the Tractor Boys off their perch, but were spared the play-offs as Leeds suffered a defeat against Coventry.
