James Gunn’s Superman Adds Christopher Reeve’s Son Will Reeve

James Gunn’s “Superman” celebrates both the Man of Steel’s legacy and the actor who brought him to the big screen with a special cameo.

The late Christopher Reeve achieved his greatest commercial success as Superman and his alter ego Clark Kent in the first four Superman films. Now his youngest son, ABC News correspondent and journalist Will Reeve, will appear in the upcoming DC Studios film as a television reporter.

The project is currently filming in Cleveland, Ohio, where local journalists (via Cleveland.com) have captured all the behind-the-scenes footage, including Keanu Reeve’s appearance on set during a major scene. David Corenswet stars as Superman in the latest iteration of the character, written and directed by Gunn, co-head of Warner Bros.’ DC Studios. The film will hit theaters on July 11, 2025.

Will Reeve and his older siblings Matthew and Alexandra recently gained attention for Ian Bonhote and Peter Ettedgui’s documentary “Super/Man,” which chronicles the life and career of their late father. The Reeve children appear in the documentary, which explores the actor’s rise to Hollywood icon status and the near-fatal horseback riding accident in 1995 that left him paralyzed from the neck down. (Reeve died in 2004.) After premiering at the Sundance Film Festival, “Super/Man” finalized a deal to sell to Warner Bros. Discovery for about $15 million.

“Most of my memories of my dad are of him after the accident, because I wasn’t even three years old when he was injured,” Reeve said. Variety “So it’s a real gift for me to see his whole life up to that time told in such a poetic, cinematic and authentic way by our wonderful directors.”

In the interview, the Reeve children were also asked about their thoughts on Christopher Reeve’s appearance in last year’s flagship Warner Bros. comic book, “The Flash,” in which his CGI-recreated incarnation of Superman is spotted by Ezra Miller’s Flash in the multiverse. None of them had watched “The Flash,” and they didn’t participate in the cameo. But Will Reeve’s appearance in the upcoming “Superman” marks a step forward in the family’s synergistic relationship with the studio, at a time when everything Superman-related has a tendency to ebb and flow.

The documentary will hit the big screen this fall, in select theaters on September 21, followed by an encore presentation on Christopher Reeve’s birthday, September 25. DC Studios is collaborating with Fathom Events for the theatrical release.

DC Studios did not respond to our request for comment on Reeve’s cameo.
