James Gunn Teases David Corenswet as Superman in New Photo: ‘Get Ready’

James Gunn gave a first look at his next Superman reboot starring David Corenswet as the iconic DC superhero.

The director shared a photo of Corenswet donning his Superman shoes while wearing a weathered version of the famous costume with the caption, “Get ready.” He also added the film’s release date, scheduled for July 11, 2025.

Besides Corenswet, the reboot stars Nicholas Hoult as villain Lex Luthor and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Isabela Merced, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, Edi Gathegi, Terence Rosemore, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, María Gabriela de Faría and Wendell Pierce also star in the film, according to People.

In February, Gunn shared a photo of the cast from the first table read for the film, previously titled Superman: Legacy. Around the same time, Brosnahan opened up about the “incredible” experience with his castmates.

“It was amazing to hear the script out loud,” she said. Variety. “Like all these films, there are a lot of action sequences and all that. So hearing the rhythm of the film and hearing these characters occupied by the actors playing them is really fun. They’re also a great band. You can’t ask for more when you’re doing something like this.

Brosnahan added that she has been a longtime fan of Lois Lane.

“She’s smart, ambitious and can be funny. She knows she’s the smartest person in the room most of the time,” she said. “When the opportunity presented itself…I’m such a fan of James Gunn from afar…we always find these characters. We haven’t started filming yet. You will encounter the final version.

Corenswet, for his part, is preparing to play an “optimistic” version of Superman.

“I would love to see someone do an optimistic throwback (to face Superman),” he said. Entertainment this evening. “I love Henry Cavill’s dark, realistic version, but I’d like to see the next one be very bright and optimistic.”
