Jack Grealish reveals difficult question his mum asks him as Aston Villa fans give him unhappy welcome

Manchester City striker Jack Grealish has admitted he always finds it difficult to answer a question from his mother.

The 28-year-old may have won the treble last season and been a key player for England, but that doesn’t appease everyone.

Grealish became the most expensive British player in 2021 when he joined Man City from Aston Villa in a £100m deal, but this has since been surpassed by Declan Rice who cost 105 million pounds to Arsenal.

His first two campaigns were successful at the Etihad but the Three Lions star had a difficult season marred by several injuries.

He made a return to action as his side drew 0-0 with Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon – but received a dressing down from Pep Guardiola at full-time.

And while he’s adored by Man City fans, it’s quite the opposite when he plays away, and he can’t seem to get it – and neither can his mother.

“I always think about it. I always ask myself, ‘Why are they booing me?’ – and my mom always asks me about it too,” he said.

“But I don’t really know why it happens. Every pitch I go to now, I get booed and I don’t really know why. I just have to try to take that as a positive or a compliment.”

City faced Villa at the Etihad on Wednesday night and even then couldn’t escape the boos from the away side.

Every time he touched the ball, boos could be heard in the away section of the stadium and he was taunted with every erroneous touch or pass.

Grealish has already won six trophies, with his current employers helping to silence his critics.

He was part of his side’s historic treble, helping Man City to their first ever Champions League triumph last campaign.

His side remain in the hunt for three trophies this campaign, looking to get their hands on three trophies once against: the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.

Man City are currently third in the English top flight, with 63 points, behind league leaders Arsenal and Liverpool.
