Jack Grealish: Manchester City midfielder devotes the goal to the late Brother, who died 25 years ago

An emotional Jack Grealish devoted his first goal in the Premier League to almost 16 months to his younger brother Keelan on the 25th anniversary of his death.

During his first league departure since December, the Manchester City midfielder scored a second minute opening match in the 2-0 victory against Leicester at the Etihad stadium.

As he celebrated, it seemed that Grenalish was simply happy to score a rare start with an even rarer goal, which ended a long wait since the 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace on December 16, 2023.

It was only after the final whistle that he revealed the birthday of the poignant family that he marked.

Grealish was four years old when his brother Keelan died in April 2000, barely nine months old due to the sudden infant death syndrome (SMSN).

England midfielder spoke about the birthday of Keelan’s death speaking to Sky Sports after the match.

“My little brother died 25 years ago today,” he said. “This day is difficult for the family.

“My mother and father were there, so scoring and winning was great.”

Grealish then paid tribute to Instagram,, externalWriting: “With me always especially this day … It was for you Keelan.”

The municipal director, Pep Guardiola, said that he was not aware of the birthday but paid tribute to the compassionate nature of Grealish. The 29 -year -old has a sister, Holly, 21, who suffers from cerebral paralysis.

“Jack is an incredible human being,” said Guardiola. “He is incredibly generous.

“I didn’t know it and I can’t imagine how difficult it can be with mom, dad and sister. It is good that they remember him, that day. I’m sure they remember him every day. But it’s good to score.”
