- Draper defeated Marcos Giron to reach the last 16 of the masters of Monte Carlo
- The British Number One and Fifth Seed spent only an hour in court in a 6-1, 6-1 victory
- Draper received a first -round bye in the competition but released
Jack Draper made a superb departure for his season Clay Court with a complete 6-1 6-1 victory against Marcos Giron at the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters.
With his service game and his forehand working well, the number one and fifth British spent an hour on the field while he was exceeding the American to obtain a place in the last 16.
Draper marked his authority in the second round match with two breaks in a first set which he won in a little less than half an hour and it was a similar story when he increased the tempo in the second.
Giron had little response and became more and more subject to errors when Draper concluded a comfortable victory with another break.
Draper, who received a bye in the first round, said on Sky Sports: “These are not sometimes easy conditions here and we were obviously playing later (during the day), but I have the impression of having transformed clay.
“I worked hard to look for my forehand and do all the things to be effective on this surface because I have struggled a bit in the past two years.

“I hope this year, I can have a good race.”
Draper’s victory came after a loss to the head of the seeded and the world number two Alexander Zverev in the hands of Matteo Berrettini.
The German was beaten 2-6 6-3 7-5 when Bertttini came from behind to tear off the victory and claim the greatest victory of his career by ranking in a tense final set.
Italian Berrettini, the world’s number 34, failed to serve for the match at 5-4, but again broke out in the next match, with a winner at the end of a remarkable 48-shooting rally.
He was then not mistaken in his next service match, filling the victory in two hours and 27 minutes.
Triple champion Stefanos Tsisipas beat Australian Jordan Thompson 4-6 6-4 6-2.
In one of the remaining first round games, former world number three Grigor Dimitrov from Bulgaria beat Chilean Nicolas Jarry 6-3 6-4.
