A Minecraft film has been surprised at the box office with the best opening weekend of the year so far.
Friday, after having won $ 55 million (43 million pounds Sterling), the cinematographic adaptation of Jack Black and Jason Momoa of the Minecraft video game is projected by Deadline to win more than $ 130 million (100 million pounds Sterling) in the United States since its first weekend. This prediction far exceeds projections at the box office earlier in the week.
If the opening success continues next weekend, a Minecraft film is on the right track to break the record for the biggest opening for a video game adaptation of all time.
“What the world needs now is love, Sweet Love,” said Black, singing the success of Burt Bacharach in 1965 during the world first of the film on Leicester Square in London.
“We have to work together, my God. There is so much violence, war and hatred. And that’s what I like in this film – there is a lot of love in it and there is a lot of creativity.
“There is also anger and violence, but in the end, it is friendship and working together to make a better place.”
Black features the main character in video games, Steve and Momoa play Garrett, a video game champion in the 1980s. The duo and their group are drawn through a mystical portal in the exaggerated world – land filled with blocks where people can build everything they want.
