Boston-A jury acquitted Jabrill Peppers on Friday, Safety of the Patriots of New England, in his assault trial and assault and injuries.
Peppers finished his testimony earlier Friday by denying having smothered or jostled the woman who had brought the accusation against him. Peppers, who appeared for the first time at the witness mark on Thursday, was tried for assault and injury with a dangerous weapon.
A woman testified on Thursday that Peppers had grabbed her by the neck, plated her against the wall and pushed her on the stairs after another man called her several times on her mobile phone while they were in bed.
Peppers told the bar that he had declared to the police that he thought “that she was trying to do all this to spoil my career,” said Boston Globe.
In addition to the woman’s testimony, prosecutors showed several videos of the incident, in which we can see Peppers asking the naked woman to leave her house several times in Braintree, in the Massachusetts. The woman said Peppers filmed her and taunt her as she was trying to recover her things and leave after the alleged assault.
The October incident police report corroborated the woman’s testimony. Police said that she refused to go to hospital and that she had been treated at her home for her injuries.
“He caught me by the neck and plated me against the wall,” said the woman. “My feet did not touch the wall and he held me against the wall.”
During the counter-examination Thursday, Marc Brofsky, the lawyer for Peppers, challenged the story of the woman and the extent of her injuries. He also underlined the trial of $ 9.5 million that the woman brought against Peppers, alleging that she was “looking for money”.
The woman challenged that it is a question of money, saying: “We cannot quantify the trauma. She said that she was also looking for apology and that Peppers obtained advice on anger management.
On Thursday, Peppers admitted to possess cocaine before his trial for domestic violence. This continued without result, according to the globe, which means that if it avoids trouble in the next four months, the accusation will be abandoned.
Peppers missed seven games after being placed on the Commissioner’s exemption list on October 9 following the incident. It was withdrawn from the list on November 25, but only participated in two of the last five patriots this season due to injuries to the foot and the hamstrings.
The Patriots signed Peppers, a security guard in his third season with the team, for an extension during the summer. Peppers was initially drafted by the Browns in 2017 and spent two seasons in Cleveland before playing for New York Giants for three seasons. His current contract with the Patriots runs until 2027.
