I’ve had 200 fights as a boxer, had clashes with Sir Alex Ferguson and now I’ve gone viral at 78
Frank Gilfeather became a popular influencer at the age of 78 with unprecedented success.
The Scot started out in the sport as an amateur fighter, fighting Scottish icon Ken Buchanan in one of 200 mega fights during his career.
Gilfeather also worked as a football journalist in Scotland, notably clashing with former Man United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who managed Aberdeen and St Mirren in Scotland.
He has now gone viral on social media thanks to his “pragmatic” boxing coaching, which has seen him grow his follower count to over 600,000 on TikTok and Instagram combined.
Speaking on talkSPORT Fight Night, Gilfeather revealed how his son inspired his huge social media presence.
He said: “I was at the gym with my son Paul. I showed how to throw a right uppercut and a left uppercut.
“He filmed it and said he was going to put it on TikTok. It went crazy overnight.
“Out of tens of thousands of people, the hardest thing to solve was Instagram. Five months ago I had 172 followers and now I have 415,000. It’s crazy.
“People have bought into my boxing philosophy, and I guess they like the old school stuff I taught.”
His TikTok handle “The Noble Art” gained huge notoriety and saw him rise to fame thanks to a huge response to his wholesome content on a regular basis.
Gilfeather is in remarkable form despite his age and has now taken a step back from his work as a football journalist, plying his trade on numerous national newspapers.
The fan favorite regularly got on Ferguson’s bad side, having previously been described as having a “hate-hate” relationship with the footballing great.
And as a result, the veteran has hinted that he has no regrets about walking away from the world of football.
“The feedback I receive is encouraging, I don’t miss football.
“In my many decades of reporting on football, things have changed dramatically in the way the media is treated.
“We are now treated like enemies by the football leadership, so it has become much more difficult to break through that barrier if you understand what I mean.”
The Scot can’t believe how well he’s been received online, with his videos attracting millions of likes.
