Ivan Toney was seen celebrating Brentford’s goal among fans at the stadium despite his move to Saudi Arabia

Ivan Toney showed he is still a Brentford man at heart after celebrating their goal against Southampton.

The England star completed a big-money move away from the Bees on transfer deadline day but was still present at the Gtech Community Stadium to show his support for the team.

Watching from the stands, Toney could be seen smiling and applauding after seeing his former team-mate Bryan Mbeumo give Brentford the lead late in the first half.

After Southampton lost the ball, Kevin Schade drove towards goal and hit the post before Mbeumo converted the rebound.

Toney’s appearance showed that the 28-year-old is still very much part of the Brentford family.

The forward completed a £40million move to Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli in the final hours of the transfer deadline.

The transfer is worth around £50m to the player over the course of his three years in the Saudi Pro League.

But with his four years with Brentford as a player now over, head coach Thomas Frank had nothing but positive things to say about him.

Speaking after the move was announced, Frank said: “It has been a pleasure working with Ivan over the last four years.

“He averaged more than a goal every two games, which is an incredible number.

“On the pitch he was a fantastic goalscorer, a link player and a leader. He pushed the team, the group and himself.”

Frank added: “It’s a wonderful journey we’ve been on together. Ivan has helped the club and the team, and the club and the team have helped Ivan.

“I am delighted that he has the opportunity to try something new in his life and career. We thank him for all these magical moments and wish him the best for his next chapter. Ivan leaves Brentford a legend.”

Toney joined Brentford in the summer of 2020 from Peterborough and has made a huge impact at the club.

The striker scored 72 goals in 141 games for the Bees as he helped them climb out of the Championship before cementing their place in the Premier League.
