Ivan Juric has left Southampton after their 3-1 defeat against Tottenham confirmed his relegation of the Premier League.
The Croatian won only two and lost 13 of his 16 games at the helm after replacing Russell Martin at the end of December.
Southampton underwent the oldest relegation of the elite after 31 games – a match less than even the sadly famous side of the 2007-08 derby county.
They could still finish on the total lowest points of the Premier League, because their total of 10 so far is less than derby accumulated that year.
Sky Sports News reports that Juric left with immediate effect.
In a sign of the abjection of their season, Juric recently put in connection with his players the challenge of not being “the worst team in the history of the Premier League”.
After Sunday’s defeat by Tottenham, Juric – whose only first league victory in 14 attempts came against Ipswich – struck the club recruitment.
“Recruitment is everything in football,” he said. “We have a lot of talented young players, but with few matches in the Premier League. What I noticed most in three or four months here is completely different physics between us and the other teams in the League.
“It’s time to understand the errors made by the club in the past three or four years and start creating something really good.”
