“It’s special” – Justin Thomas fights back tears during emotional interview at PGA Championship

The two-time major winner was playing in front of a home crowd at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky and briefly threatened to mount a challenge.

Thomas found himself five shots behind heading into the final round, but a three-under-par round of 68 wasn’t enough to spook the leaders.

Nonetheless, he received an enthusiastic reception from a record PGA Championship crowd on the 18th green and appeared to become emotional.

Speaking to Sky Sports after his round, Thomas then began to cry.

“It was pretty special to go up to 18,” he said. “Obviously I would have liked to have had a chance to win.

“It was so much fun. I can’t express it in words.”

The journalist, noticing that Thomas was on the verge of tears, asked him to explain his emotions.

Trying not to scream, the 31-year-old replied: “Yeah. It’s just special. It was a fun week. I’m just happy to be able to do this and play in front of my hometown.”

Thomas won his second PGA Championship title in 2022 but the past year has been difficult for the world No. 31.

Before this week, he had missed the cut in four of the last five majors and finished T65 in the other.

Ryder Cup hero Thomas has been feeding the crowd this week with a number of incredible holes from the green, including a stunning flop shot on Saturday.
