Squid game star Lee Jung-jae and creator Hwang Dong-hyuk tease the third and final season of the Netflix series.
Jung-Jae and Dong-hyuk spoke to Deadline on the Golden Globes red carpet and explained what viewers can expect for season 3.
“In season 3, slightly different from seasons 1 and 2, there will be more twists and turns and more conflicts between the characters – something a little different, more complex,” said the series star. “It’s going to be chaotic and you won’t know where we’re taking you.”
Dong-hyuk said, “This is the craziest thing. It’s a crazy, crazy, crazy season. “It’s the best finale of the season,” adding that they are working on post-production on the series and are “almost done.”
The second season of the series was released on December 26 and raked in $68 million in its first three days on the streamer, according to Netflix. Squid game was also #1 on the weekly list of non-English TV channels in 92 countries. The show broke Netflix’s record for most views for a series in its first week, a record Wednesday had held up so far with 50.1 million views.
Season 2 of Squid game takes place three years after player 456 won the game, returning with a new resolve in mind. Gi-hun jumps into the mysterious survival game, starting another game of life or death with new participants gathered to win the 456 billion won prize.
Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun and Gong Yoo returned to Squid game Season 2 and were joined by Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-uk, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, Jo Yu-ri and Won Ji-an.
