Last month, the former Yankees star, Brett Gardner, and his wife, Jessica Gardner, announced that their 14 -year -old son Miller died during family vacation on March 21. In an emotional statement that had been shared with the official New York Yankees X account, parents with a broken heart said they had “so many questions” after the teenager was found dead in his hotel room in Costa Rica.
They explained that Miller died after he and “several other family members” fell ill during the trip, and that he died “peacefully in his sleep”.
“With heavy hearts, we are saddened to announce the death of our youngest son, Miller,” says declaration X. “He was 14 years old and left us far too soon after having fallen ill with several other family members on vacation. We have so many questions and so few answers at this stage, but we know that he died peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Friday, March 21. ”
“Miller was a beloved son and brother and we cannot yet understand our life without his contagious smile. He loved football, baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, family and friends. He lived life to the maximum,” continued
“We are very grateful to all those who contacted to provide support and encouragement during this difficult period and we are convinced that our faith, our family and our friends will help us to sail in this unimaginable loss,” continued the press release. “Our prayers go to the teammates and friends of Miller, as well as to all the other families who lost a child far too early when we share their sorrow. Please respect our wishes for privacy while we mourn and seek healing. ”
And Monday, the initial cause of Miller of death of asphyxiation was officially excluded, the Costa Rica’s judicial investigation agency said before NBC News that he was thought that the teenager had died of asphyxiation “after a possible poisoning after having apparently ingested food”. At the time, it was specified that it was a preliminary cause of death and that they expected autopsy and toxicology results.
In a new video declaration by the director general of the judicial inquiry agency, Randall Zúñiga, it has been revealed that the investigation into Miller’s death is still underway, but “dangerous atmospheres” had been found in the room in which his family remained.
“At that time, high levels of carbon monoxide contamination were detected in this room. This then leads us to a line of investigation in which it seems that this person is dead by inhaling these very dangerous gases,” said Zúñiga in his native Spanish, according to people.

“In this regard, it is important to note that alongside this room, there is a specialized machine room, which would contain a certain type of contamination in these rooms, which could have caused a kind of contamination at the time,” continued Zúniga. “We must also wait for the final results of forensic toxicology, which will determine exactly what caused the death of this young man.”
In a separate declaration, a spokesperson for the judicial inquiry agency confirmed to people: “The preliminary decision excluded asphyxiation as a cause of death. No macro level anomaly has been observed in the airways during the organization of the organization.”
The New York Yankees previously published a statement in support of Brett and Jessica in the midst of their loss, writing: “Our hearts are heavy, and the family of Yankees is filled with sorrow after learning the death of Miller Gardner. It was not only Brett who grew up in this organization for over 17 years – so his wife made boys, for over 17 years – so made his wife, Jessica, and their two boys, for over 17 years – Miller. “”
