It was censorship, says that the deputy denied the entry into Israel

Abtisam Mohamed said that the Israeli government’s decision to prevent him and her colleague, Labor MP Yuan Yang from entering the country was “on censorship and control”.

Mohamed and Yang went to Israel and the Cisjordanie occupied as part of a parliamentary delegation, but were detained at the airport on Saturday before returning to the United Kingdom until the next day.

In a statement to the deputies, the Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hamish Falconer, said that he thought it was the first time that a British deputy was forbidden to enter Israel.

He said that their treatment had been “unacceptable and deeply concerning” and was “no way to deal with democratically elected representatives of a close partner nation”.

On Saturday, the London Israeli Embassy said that its country “would not allow the entry of people or entities that act against the State and its citizens”.

He said Mohamed and Yang had “accused Israel of false statements” and were “actively involved in promoting sanctions against Israeli ministers”.

Speaking for the first time since the incident, Mohamed said that Yang and herself had “refused to enter our legitimate political opinions, which are firmly aligned with international law”.

“This act was not only a diplomatic affront. It was not security. It was control and censorship,” added the deputy for Sheffield Central.

Yang, the deputy for Earley and Woodley, told the House of Commons that she had “understood the risks” of going to the region.

“However, I did not anticipate the risks of detention and expulsion of a British ally.”

She added: “The people of the world listen to us, our voice is powerful and we must continue to use it without fear or favor.”

On Sunday, the conservative chief Kemi Badenoch supported Israel’s right to “control his borders”.

Foreign Minister David Lammy marked his “shameful” comments, but on Monday, Badenoch said that she was next to them.

His position was resolved in Parliament by the conservative spokesperson for the Foreign Affairs Office Wendy Morton.

She said that the UK Foreign Office guidelines said that “Israeli authorities decide whether you can enter Israel” and that “some visitors can face longer research and questions, including those considered to have publicly criticized the state of Israel”.

Morton asked Falconer if he accepted that “British nationals visiting Israel, a country at war, should be aware of these requirements and consider them carefully before making decisions to travel and therefore go to Israel at their own risk?”

Falconer said he was “really surprised” by his answer and urged Badenoch to apologize for his comments.

He said that Israel had the right to decide who came to the country but added: “On this occasion, the two members of the Parliament were authorized to enter and he was therefore known to the Israeli government before their arrival at the airport they would travel.”

Liberal Democrat MP Monica Harding said that she was “deeply disappointed” by Morton’s comments.

She also asked questions about a BBC report On the Palestinian detainees who said they had been mistreated and tortured by Israeli military and penitentiary staff. Israeli defense forces have said that it “completely rejects the accusations of systematic detainees.”

Harding said the report was “deeply disturbing” and asked if he had been raised with Israel.

Falconer replied that the government would continue to have discussions on “reports concerning reports”.

Mohamed and Yang received the support of the president of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Dame Emily Thornberry, who said that their treatment was “an insult to our parliament”.

However, the curator Bob Blackman noted that there had been cases where the United Kingdom “refusing to admit elected politicians who wanted to come to this country”.

The Sammy Wilson of the DUP accused Labor deputies of having shown “false indignation” and said that some in their party had campaigned in the past to exclude US President Donald Trump from coming to the United Kingdom.
