Magnus Carlsen is not only the out -of -competition chess player in the current generation, he is widely considered as one of the best to have played the game and is considered as tied with icons such as Garry Kasparov, Anatoly Karpov, Bobby Fischer, among others. The Norwegian Grand Master has held the first place in the world ranking since 2011 and won the world championship five consecutive times before leaving his title voluntarily in 2023.

And thanks to his incredible spirit, he exerts a considerable influence on sport – although this influence has led to a break in relations with the leading world of Fide.

When he was asked for the secrecy of his meteoric increase in sport through his adolescence and his domination of chess since he passed at the top of the Fide ratings 14 years ago, the 34 -year -old man said that even if he was “incredibly, naturally gifted” to failures, his genes could also have something to do.

“I think it must be a variety of factors. I think there is no doubt that I am incredibly, naturally gifted in the game. Otherwise, I would not have been so far,” said Carlsen The Joe Rogan experience podcast.

“And my father is incredibly good with the figures. He started playing fairly late chess but became decent. My mother was quite intelligent and my sisters are also very intelligent. It is therefore clear that there are good genes,” added the Norwegian.

Magnus’ father, Henrik, was an amateur chess player and presented him to sport at the age of five. Magnus would have shown a lot of interest in sport at the start, and that his original motivation to learn sport was to beat his older sister.

Magnus’ father was a computer consultant in addition to being an amateur chess player and later became his manager and his spokesperson. His mother Sigrun – who died last year after a long battle against the disease – was a chemical engineer.
