Beirut (AP) – The Israeli army struck several sites in the southern suburbs of Beirut which, according to him, held underground installations used by Hezbollah for the production of drones Thursday, on the eve of the Eid Al -Adha holidays.
The strikes marked the first time in more than a month that Israel had concluded on the outskirts of the capital and the fourth time since a cease-fire agreement in the United States put an end to the last war between Israel and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah in November.
Israel has published a warning before X strikes, formerly known as Twitter, announcing that it would reach eight buildings in four places.
Israel has continued to make almost a day strikes in the south and eastern Lebanon from the ceasefire, which, according to Lebanon, raped the agreement. Israeli officials say that strikes aim to prevent Hezbollah from regrouping after a war which withdrew a large part of its senior direction and its arsenal.
The Israeli army said in a statement that Hezbollah “tried to produce thousands of drones under the leadership and financing of Iranian terrorist groups”.
Hezbollah “used drones a lot in its attacks against the state of Israel and works to extend its industry and its production of drones in preparation for the next war,” said the army statement.
There was no immediate declaration of Hezbollah.
A Hezbollah official denied that there were drone production facilities on targeted locations.
“In the agreement (ceasefire), there is a mechanism to investigate if there is a complaint,” said the manager. “Israel in general, and Netanyahu in particular, wants to continue the war in the region.”
A Lebanese army official said that the army had attempted to convince Israel not to carry out strikes and let Lebanese officials enter to search the area under the mechanism presented in the cease-fire agreement, but that the Israeli army refused, then the Lebanese soldiers have moved away from the locations. Israeli army officials could not be reached immediately to comment.
The two Lebanese officials spoke under the cover of anonymity because they were not allowed to speak publicly.
Lebanese president Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned strikes.
In a statement, the qualified as “blatant violation of an international agreement, as well as the fundamental principles of international and humanitarian laws and resolutions, on the eve of a sacred religious occasion” and said that it demonstrates the “rejection of Israel of the requirements of stability, regulation and peace in our region”.
He accused Israel of using Lebanon as a “mailbox” to send a message to the United States. He did not develop. Washington has negotiated with Iran – Hezbollah’s funder – for an agreement on the Tehran nuclear program and warned Israel not to conclude Iran in the meantime.
Israeli Minister of Defense Israel Katz, in a statement, praised the Israeli Air Force for “perfect execution” of strikes and said that Israel “will continue to apply the ceasefire rules without any compromise”. He said that Israel has the “Lebanese government directly responsible for the prevention of violations of the ceasefire and any terrorist activity against the State of Israel”.
The conflict between Hezbollah and Israel began on October 8, 2023 when the Lebanese militant group began to launch rockets across the border to support its ally, Hamas, in Gaza. Israel responded with air strikes and bombings and both were quickly locked in a low level conflict that continued for almost a year before intensifying in a large -scale war in September 2024.
He killed more than 4,000 people in Lebanon, including hundreds of civilians, while the Lebanese government said in April that Israeli strikes had killed 190 other people and injured 485 injured from the ceasefire.
There was increasing pressure on Hezbollah – both national and international – to abandon its remaining arsenal, but the group officials said they would not do it until Israel stops its air strikes and withdraw five points which it still occupies along the border in southern Lebanon.
