Syria accused Israel on Thursday of trying to destabilize the country after intense air strikes on the military bases and a deadly raid in southern Syria, part of an in -depth incursion that greatly increases tensions in the region.
Since the Assad regime was ousted from Syria last year in a rapid rebellious offensive, Israel has made hundreds of air strikes and has deployed forces in southern Syria, in what it is said to be necessary security operations against potentially hostile forces. The latest Israel’s ground foray, which seemed to be one of the deepest and deadliest in Syria so far, has aroused new indignation among some Syrians.
The new leaders of Syria have condemned Israel’s measures, accusing Israel of having violated its rights, and many Syrians fear that the incursions can announce long -term occupation.
The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that “dozens of civilians and soldiers” were injured in air strikes that caused the “almost total destruction” of the military airport outside the city of Hama. The Israeli army said on Wednesday evening that it had made air strikes on “military capacities” in bases in Syria, including one in the Hama region and another in the center of the country, as well as military infrastructure in the Damascus region, the capital.
In the south of the country, the office of the Governor of Daraa said that at least nine people had been killed in attacks during an advance by Israeli forces to the city of Tall al-Jabiye. A local activist, Ammar Jahmany, said in a telephone interview that Israeli forces clashed with local combatants who defended the city approaches.
Israel said in an article on Telegram that his forces had made a night raid. He said his forces confiscated weapons and “destroyed terrorist infrastructure”. After the troops were criticized by armed activists, the army killed several, said the post.
