According to Reuters, local health authorities in Gaza reported that the latest Israeli strikes killed at least 58 people overnight, bringing the number of deaths more than 300 since Thursday.
Trump recognized his concern about the climbing of the conflict on Friday. “We are looking at Gaza. And we are going to take care of it. Many people are hungry,” said the president.
In the early hours of Saturday, the Palestinian media reported that Israeli land troops had progressed to Deir al-Balah, one of the rare regions of Gaza where the ground troops have not yet operated during the war.
Earlier this week, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said the recent Israeli strikes had targeted Mohammed Sinwar, the alleged chief of Hamas in Gaza and his brother of the deceased former chief, Yahya Sinwar, who provided for the attack on October 7, 2023.
Israeli intelligence believes that Sinwar was in the targeted area at the time of the attack but has no additional information.
The new military operation in Gaza comes after the differences reported between Israel and Trump, who did not visit Israel during his trip to the region.
