A challenge during halftime of a Mexican soccer match went viral after both competitors went to great lengths to win.

In theory, the two were supposed to clear several obstacles, cross a beam, crawl through a tunnel on the ground, jump through a punt and score a goal into an empty net.

In reality, things turned out very differently.

Things began to go off the rails at the start of the relay race, which appeared to take place during Thursday’s match between Cruz Azul and Monterrey, when a man in shorts pushed another in blue jeans off the beam, making him stumble to the ground.

From there, the man in shorts made his way through the tunnel – but the other man came back to push him as he jumped through the cutout, flipping him over.

The loser of the event remained on the ground

The competitor wearing jeans was tackled as he was about to score on an empty net.

The man in jeans then opted to skip the cutout altogether, running around the obstacle as he approached a ball and appeared ready to score on an empty goal.

However, he slowed his run as he approached the ball, allowing the other competitor to catch up with him and deliver a crunching sliding tackle from behind, leaving him in a heap.

The sliding tackle then rose to his feet for a simple side-foot finish before walking away in celebration.

The other man ended up with his head in his hands on the ground as a nearby woman hilariously recorded him.
