The government of the Bharatiya Janata (BJP) party in Haryana witnessed a setback on Tuesday (May 7) after three independent deputies withdrew their support and transferred their allegiance to its rival congress. The great old party said that the government of Nayab Singh Saini was now in the minority and demanded the resignation of the chief minister.
Development comes two weeks before the Lok Sabha elections in Haryana. Elections in the State Assembly are also planned for later this year.
Will the BJP government in Haryana survive? Let’s take a closer look.
What happened?
Three independent deputies – Sombir Sangwan (Dadri), Randir Gollen (Pundri) and Dharampal Gonder (Nilokheri) – said they had decided to take their support from the BJP to the Congress.
They made this announcement at a press conference in Rohtak in the presence of former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda and the President of the Udai Bhan State Congress. The deputies said they had informed the governor of their decision, reported Theprint.

Explaining why he moved his support from the BJP to the Congress, Golan, according to Indian Express, said, “We have continued to honestly support the BJP government in the past four and a half years. But today, inflation and unemployment have affected new heights, while farmers, workers, traders, employees … Everyone … is upset due to the concept of family identification and identity of property. »»
The predecessor of Saini, the former BJP CM CM Manohar Lal Khattar, had introduced an identity card for families to benefit from the benefits of the government.
Golan said that their move should not be considered an “opportunism”, adding that it was “a reflection of the voice of the public,” reported the Indian Express newspaper.
Gondher, the other independent deputy to change camp, told the media that he, Golan, Sangwan and another independent deputy, Nayan Pal Rawat, had decided to support the BJP while Khattar was the CM. “When our Senapati (Khattar) left, it hurt us, “he said the newspaper.
Congress, JJP reacts
The congress calls for the resignation of CM Saini and the taxation of the President’s regulation in Haryana.
Bhupinder Singh Hooda, the opposition chief (LOP) in the State Assembly, also demanded the first elections.
“After withdrawing from the support of the three deputies, the Nayab Singh Saini government lost the moral authority to stay in power. The governor should immediately reject the government and impose the president’s regulation in addition to ordering the first elections in the State Assembly to respect the mandate of the people, “he said Theprint.
Addressing the supplier, the head of the Haryana congress, Udai Bhan, said that the government of the BJP had lost the majority of the State Assembly. He said that the assembly elections in Haryana should be held simultaneously with Lok Sabha’s surveys in the state on May 25, reported Indian Express.
“The government of Nayab Singh Saini is now a minority government. Saini should submit his resignation because he is not allowed to stay even for a minute, “he said that by PTI.
The Jannayak Janata (JJP) party, whose alliance with the BJP collapsed in March for the sharing of seats, also commented on development.
Wednesday (May 8), the head of the JJP, due to Chautala, would have said that he would “support the opposition chief Bhupinder Singh Hooda” if the former CM congress initiate a decision to overthrow the government of the BJP.
“The BJP talks about winning the 10 Lok Sabha seats and a seat of Karnal ByPoll. But three deputies withdrawn support show how weak the BJP has become. I would also like to tell the opposition chief that, according to mathematics of the figures today, if a stage was taken to overthrow this government during the elections, I would consider to support it (Hooda) from the outside. It is now up to Congress to think if it will take a step to overthrow the government of the BJP, “said Chautala, in accordance with Indian Express.
JJP chief Digvijay Singh Chautala said Hooda should start the process of “dropping the government that has lost people’s confidence”. He also said that the opposition chief should meet Governor Bandaru Dattatraya and inform him of the situation, according to the Pti report.
BJP in defensive mode
Haryana CM Saini said that her government was not in trouble and that “works strongly,” reported PTI.
He also blamed the Congress for Development. “Some deputies have their desires … The Congress satisfied (the) desires (of these people), but people know everything. Congress is not concerned with the desires of people, but only by itself, “Saini told the news agency.

How the figures accumulate
In the polls of the 2019 Haryana Assembly, the BJP won 40 of the 90 seats in total at the Chamber, at Congress 31, at the JJP 10, at the National Lok Dal (INLD) and the Haryana Lokhit Party (HLP) A seat each, and independent seven.
After Kuldeep Bishnoi du Congress resigned from his duties as a deputy to join the BJP and his son Bhavya won in Adampur on a Safran party ticket, the BJP count went to 41. The Congress count was 30.
Until March 12, the government of Khattar obtained the support of 41 deputies of the BJP, 10 deputies of the JJP, six independents and an HLP deputy, noted Theprint.
After Khattar resigned while Haryana CM and Saini replaced it in March, the government was supported by 47 deputies – 40 of the BJP, six independents and Gopal Kanda of HLP. It was at this time that the BJP-JJP alliance collapsed.
Khattar also resigned from its members of the State Assembly and received a ticket by the BJP to contest the headquarters of Karnal Lok Sabha.
Later, the independent deputy Ranjit Singh also resigned and was set up by the BJP of the district Hisar Lok Sabha. Following the developments, the Haryana government ended up with the support of 46 members in the Chamber who now had the strength of 88.
After three independent deputies crossed the teams on Tuesday, the Saini government has the support of 43 deputies – BJP 40, two independents and an HLP. Now there are two less than the majority of 45 of the current house of 88 members.
However, the BJP says it has the majority brand.
Early Attendant, secretary to the media of the government of Haryana, said that the Government of Saini still enjoys the support of 47 deputies, including four deputies from the former Ally JJP of the BJP.
“We have 40 deputies, and we have the support of Gopal Kanda of the Haryana Lokhit party, of two independent Rakesh Dalatabad (Badshahpur) and Nayan Pal Rawat (Prithla) and four deputies JJP, Devender Babli (Tohana), Jogi Ram Sihigag ( Barwala), Ram Kumar Gautam (Narnond) and Ram Niwas Surjakhera (Narwana), “said Attrement Theprint.
The question of whether the BJP government in Haryana survives this crisis is a question, only time will say. Until then, we will have to wait and watch.
