Those who know fairy tales understand that the stories presented to the public, in particular these targeting children, often receive disinfected adaptations which omit darker elements. Then arrived the poisoned Disney apple – or more precisely, their princess: Rachel Zegler.
Until 2022, when she claimed a coveted Golden Globe for her main performance in “West Side Story”, Zegler remained largely unknown according to industry standards. Although blessed with a soprano voice capable of producing an impressive range, it had mainly received recognition in secondary productions and had not attracted enough attention to influential personalities to be provided with an essential guide on navigation “of the real playground of the Hollywood elite”.
Almost immediately after her casting announcement as a snow white opposite Gal Gadot as a nasty queen and mother -in -law, Zegler (23 years old) – whether deliberately or not – has shown Disney leaders several times that she, rather than embodying the kind and white princess and repeatedly with good heart and a pure heart, was herself the poisoned apple.
Little Zegler turned out to be a young woman of opinion in a without restriction who has drawn without restraint controversial. His comments went from the criticism of the dynamics of power between men and women in the original animated film to launch political attacks against President Donald Trump and expressing explicit support for the Palestinians. His tense relations with the leaders of Gadot and Disney left the studio heads in shock while they were carrying out the Bourbier de Publiciques that they had created with his cast.
Despite the film at the top of the North American box office record, he failed to generate expected income and is almost universally considered to be one of Disney’s most embarrassing failures, in particular given his hundreds of millions budget. The main blame falls in Zegler, as evidenced by an investigation of Variety revealing that, following his pro-Palestinian tweet, Disney was forced to increase security around Gadot after the threats emerged against his life. In addition, Jonah Platt, son of films producer Marc Platt, published a scathing article accusing Zegler of having injected his personal political agenda into the film promotion campaign in a way that has clearly damaged his financial performance, describing his behavior as “immature” and narcissism.
Zegler became Persona Non Grata and a massive headache for Disney leaders, who tried to control the damage at each turn – no simple task given the position of Zegler as one of the two tracks of the film. She refused to retreat from her positions, even after information emerged that Marc Platt had been sent to New York to demand that she withdraw his pro -Palestinian tweet at a private meeting – an effort that led to embarrassing failure.
Studio leaders realized that they had no choice but to minimize the platforms where Zegler could express his volatile opinions. They launched a large damage control campaign: the interactions between Gadot and Zegler have been reduced to absolute minimum requirements, which included a joint presentation of the Oscars and an official participation. However, these appearances were limited to the “internal” coverage only and did not have the atmosphere of customary celebration associated with the versions of this magnitude. Meanwhile, his public and media appearances were meticulously organized.
Wherever Disney could exercise control over Zegler, they did it – including sending to walk alone to the red carpets during the first on a scale in Spain and Japan. With regard to promotional interviews, which generally occur in abundance, the presence of Zegler (compared to that of Gadot) has been considerably reduced, with reports on apparitions canceled on “Saturday Night Live”, “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and “The Drew Barrymore Show”.
The answer is almost certainly not, at least according to the current indicators of the industry. It should be remembered that Hollywood is notoriously inconsistent with a short memory – for better or for worse. He is prematurely for the praise of Zegler’s career or to conclude that she has self-saboted her professional trajectory. Admittedly, one cannot ignore the real and substantial public and professional achievements which it is confronted with, which will probably influence potential collaborators in the years to come. However, the decline reveals a more complex reality in the Hollywood ecosystem.
Zegler, who positioned himself as the progressive voice of the Z generation and the torchbearer for “Woke Culture”, in front of a fate similar to colleagues like Melissa Barrera, drawn from “Scream 7” after having expressed his support for the Palestinians? Or maybe following Susan Sarandon, who despite an acclaimed career and an Oscars victory, has effectively found himself on a blacklist following his vocal Palestinian support? It is not clear if Zegler’s situation represents a moment at the end of his career or simply a temporary setback.
Currently, the main impact seems limited to its relationship with Disney. The studio will probably maintain close control until their contractual agreements expire – arrangements that are unlikely to be renewed in the near future. Beyond this relationship, however, the consequences seem contained. While Zegler withdrew from the shooting of “Paddington in Peru” in October 2023 shortly after the start of the war of “iron swords”, media reports attributed this departure to the strike of the Union of actors and its inability to break it as a member of the union – unrelated to the conflict or its public declarations.
With regard to social media, Zegler continues to maintain active accounts and publish free content, including post-liberation statements praising colleagues for the wonderful work experience on “Snow White”-“forgetting” in a visible manner to mention the Gadot while erasing any trace of his presence.
And always remember, free Palestine.

His performances on stage continue without interruption. In October 2024, a full year after the fight broke out and long after expressed her controversial opinions, she played on Broadway in “Roméo and Juliet”. His co-star Kit Connor (“Heartstopper”) even wore the controversial brooch of red artists 4 on his tuxedo reverse during the first festive. In addition, Zegler will soon make his debut in West End in London as manager of a new production of Evita “which should take place between June and September.
For those who have planned Zegler’s career disappearance, disappointment awaits you. Since “Snow White” has struck theaters, she continued to advance professionally: recently, her cover version of “Who I’t Be” by the musical “Shrek” appeared on the album of MCC Theater (who ironically also Ben Platt, son of the producer “Snow White” Marc Platt and his brother of Jonah Platt, who criticized Publicly Zegler).
On March 28, Zegler made his debut on CBEEBIES BedTime Story – A BELIED CHILDREN PROGRAM on BbcCbaebies cbeebies channel where celebrities read the stories at bedtime – presenting “Never Mess with a pirate princess” by Holly Ryan. The story ends with a line that many interpret as summarizing the essence of Zegler while delivering a perfectly timed blow on his criticisms: “Never play with a princess. We can all be powerful princesses. You do not need a king or a queen like parents, or a beautiful white horse or even a fancy castle to live.
