Warning: Major Spoilers to come for season five of “You” from Netflix.
The characters of the past seasons come back for the fifth and last episode of “You” – but a key figure is missing.
After fled with the murder for four seasons, Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) was finally exposed for his crimes in season five.
Episode Sept, entitled “#JOEGOLDBERG”, shows the public to shoot against Joe after an incriminating video taken for a few seconds after having murdered Clayton (Tom Francis), the son of the character of season one, Dr. Nicky Angevine (John Stamos), becomes viral.
Dominique (Natasha Behnam) and Phoenix (B), two Internet vigilants who have experienced the shocking moment, continue their withdrawal from Joe in episode seven when they accuse him of being a serial killer and post-post-premises videos they have found for years of research.
Suddenly Joe becomes a hot topic in the news, with his trendy name online and his face has plastered in the newspapers with the titles of the question of whether it is a “homicidal maniac”.
“Leave social media to be my fall,” said Joe in the narration, while he scrolls through Tiktok and sees people from his past sharing their thoughts on him.
Dottie Quinn (Saffron Burrows), Annika Atwater (Kathryn Gallagher), Sherry Conrad (Shalita Grant) and Cary Conrad (Travis Van Winkle), Paco (Luca Padovan) and Ethan Russell (Zach Cherry) are among the characters that make cams. But Ellie Alves of season two (Jenna Ortega), a budding filmmaker warned from social media, is significantly absent.

In a recent interview with Business Insider, the co-shows of the season five Michael Foley and Justin W. explained that Ortega’s commitment to season two of the Netflix series “Wednesday”, in which she plays the role of Wednesday Addams, prevented her from resuming her role in “You”.
“It was complicated by the fact that she did” Wednesday “in Ireland and it did not seem to be a non-starter,” said Foley. “We could not find a way to make it work.”
If Ortega could return to “you”, the scenario would have involved that Ellie was a benefactor of Dominique and Phoenix. But ultimately, this scenario was rebuilt.
“It was a thought that I am sure that when we gathered things, we felt that we could perhaps do this work, and we just couldn’t,” said Foley.
Ortega joined “You” in season two, while Joe moved from New York to Los Angeles for a new start. Ellie, a 15 -year -old cinephile who lived in the same apartments complex as Joe, was one of his closest knowledge of which he was protective.
After Ellie’s older sister Delilah (Carmela Zumbado) is murdered by Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti), Ellie moves in Florida using money Joe gives her.

Although Ellie does not appear again in the show, Joe always shows him money in season three, and he refers it to the start of season four.
Will be Gamble, the previous showrunner, told Indiewire in 2023 that there was a desire to bring Ortega for season four, but she was engaged in season one of “Wednesday”.
If Ellie had left the woodwork to share her opinion online in season five, Lo said that perhaps the character would express his support for Joe, or maybe she would have a completely different opinion in the past.
“You could make an argument for pro-joe because he was there for her for a very difficult period of her life,” said Lo. “But you could also say, I think that Ellie is very intelligent and she probably knows that he had something to do with the death of her sister, even if it was love. So she could have turned against him too.”
Season five of “You” is now in trouble on Netflix.
