Is Backwoods Barbie actually Beyoncé? Mysterious act has fans speculating – Orange County Register

Nestled between Brandi Cyrus and DJ Rick Dominguez in Saturday’s Stagecoach Country Music Festival lineup is a mysterious name: Backwoods Barbie.

It is not unusual for the festival to include lesser-known artists in its programming. It’s unusual, however, that an artist with virtually no digital footprint and virtually no findable music can get a Saturday night slot that lasts more than an hour.

Before the theories begin, here’s what we might find out about Backwoods Barbie:

There is a “Backwoods Barbie” on Spotify, but the artist hasn’t released a song since January 2021 and has 114 monthly listeners, according to statistics provided by Spotify. Bad Barbie from the Backwoods? Maybe.

An unverified Instagram account exists and is even currently posting information about the festival and promoting the show. The trap ? It only has 3,848 subscribers and was created in March of this year, when it had already become public that “Backwoods Barbie” was on the show.

This, naturally, has led to fan theories that “Backwoods Barbie” might be the stage name of a much better-known artist. Enter Beyoncé.

Needless to say, speculation about Beyoncé has been a whirlwind. With his recent debut in country music with his album “Cowboy Carter,” it appears that the superstar could reasonably make an appearance at a country music festival.

The theory first emerged after Coachella-goers spotted Cowboy Carter-branded trucks at the festival. When Beyoncé never showed up, fans speculated that maybe she would perform at Stagecoach, which is held on the same grounds as Coachella.

The theory was briefly put to rest when the Backwoods Barbie Instagram account posted a story saying, “For anyone asking, it’s not Texas, it’s not hold’em, and I’m not Beyoncé .”

But with uncertainty surrounding the legitimacy of the Instagram account – and a lack of clarity on who did it, some BeyHive members are still clinging to the possibility.

And even if she doesn’t do a surprise solo set, fans were quick to point out that the possibility of a guest appearance isn’t out of the question. Several featured artists from “Cowboy Carter” are on this year’s lineup, including two Mane Stage artists: Willie Nelson and Post Malone. Brittney Spencer and Tanner Adell are also expected to perform.

And of course, Backwoods Barbie could be someone else. The name probably reflects the 2008 Dolly Parton album, so there’s always that. Or maybe he’s an up-and-coming DJ. For now, it looks like we’ll have to wait until Saturday’s 7:45 p.m. performance at Diplo’s Honkytonk to find out.
