Irish Open 2024: what about it?
McIlroy said: “Since my first appearance at the Irish Open almost 20 years ago, it has been a very special tournament to play in, but that will be doubly so for me this time around.
“I am really pleased to have the opportunity to play this year’s Irish Open at a venue so close to home. Royal County Down is a fantastic venue and I still have fond memories of the 2007 Walker Cup.
“The crowd always gets behind all the Irish golfers who take part and the atmosphere is different to any we get at a golf tournament.
“Time and time again the fans prove that they are some of the best in the world and I can’t wait to see them supporting us again.”
MacIntyre added: “I’m really looking forward to getting back to the Irish Open.
“It’s been a great season so far and it would mean a lot to me to win another historic national open.
“I’ve never had the opportunity to play Royal County Down before. It’s one of those courses that I’ve heard so much good about, so I’m really looking forward to it.”
