Dublin – The violent records of the Eowyn storm hit Ireland and Northern Ireland on Friday, leaving 560,000 households and companies without electricity and forcing the cancellation of hundreds of flights and the closure of schools and public transport.
The authorities warned that the storm would be one of the most dangerous people they were confronted with and asked people to stay inside. The Irish Meteorological Agency, said Eireann, said that a burst of 182 kilometers per hour (113 MPH) during the night at Mace Head, in Galway County, provisionally broke an 80 -year -old record.
ESB Networks, which provides energy to all of Ireland, said that “unprecedented” damage to its network had resulted in power outages affecting 560,000 households, farms and businesses. He expects important breakdowns as the storm goes north.
The electricity company said before the storm that the reestablishment of the current for some customers could take up to nine days.
More than 110 departures planned and 110 arrivals at Dublin airport were canceled, said the airport, adding that other cancellations and delays were possible.
All schools in Ireland and Northern Ireland have been closed on Friday and public transport will not work in Ireland as long as a red wind warning remains in force.
The red alert – the highest alert level – was in place for the whole country for the first time since the Ophelia storm in 2017, which had killed three people.
A red alert is also in place for the southwest regions and the center of Scotland, said the British Office, warning people to expect that flying debris lead to danger of death, damage to buildings whose roofs were torn off and the closure of roads and bridges.
Dozens of flights from Edinburgh and Glasgow airports have been canceled and National Rail advised people living in Scotland and in certain parts of northern England not to travel on Friday.
