Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi fears he is dead as ‘no signs of life’ seen at helicopter crash site

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi is feared dead, as state television said on Monday (May 20) there were “no signs of life” seen at the helicopter crash site. The site was in a steep valley and rescuers had not yet reached it, state media reported.
The helicopter crashed on Sunday May 19 and was carrying Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollhian and others.

Raisi was traveling in the Iranian province of East Azerbaijan. State television said what it called a hard landing occurred near Jolfa, a town on the border with Azerbaijan, about 600 kilometers northwest of the Iranian capital, Tehran. State television later reported it further east, near the village of Uzi, but the details remained conflicting.
