Ipswich players mock Don Goodman and Leeds United’s ‘mid-table’ jibe as promotion parade begins

Ipswich players had a special message for Don Goodman during the promotion parade celebrations.

The Tractor Boys stormed their way into the Premier League as Championship runners-up behind Leicester on Saturday, beating Huddersfield 2-0 to return to the top flight for the first time since 2002.

Many fans, including Ipswich supporters themselves, were blown away by their team sealing incredible back-to-back promotions, which saw them beat third-placed Leeds and send the Yorkshire side battling through to the play-offs .

But amid all the excitement, one man always seems to be on the minds of Ipswich players: Leeds-born Sky Sports pundit and former striker Goodman.

And now one of the Tractor Boys stars has had his say on what he did with his comments.

A viral clip posted on X shows Ipswich star Luke Woolfenden being interviewed by Sky Sports on Monday as the team prepare for their open bus tour of the city.

His teammate Kayden Jackson then grabbed the microphone from the reporter’s hands and shouted “Leeds, Leeds are falling apart again”, the song with which Leicester and Ipswich fans taunted their now former automatic promotion rivals.

When the mic finally returns to Woolfenden, the reporter continues to ask him if he wants Manchester United on the first day of the season.

“Yes, United at home, my dad is based in Manchester, so I will bring United home,” he said.

Woolfenden was then asked about what Ipswich can achieve in the Premier League. However, the defender had something else in mind.

He said: “Look, I’m going to have to sit for six weeks now and listen to Don Goodman tell us that we’re not good enough, you know, to do anything in Prem, like he did in Field.

“Don Goodman…apparently we’re still going to finish in the middle of the table but Don, don’t worry about that.”

Before he could finish his speech, he burst into a smile as Jackson returned to sing Leeds again.

Picking up where he left off, Woolfenden continued: “But no, this band can do whatever they want, man. We worked so hard. This band can do anything.”

Goodman had always advised Ipswich, who were in the race for promotion during the season, to move away as the campaign progressed.

He also said that Ipswich’s “defensive record is a bit shocking for a team aiming for automatic promotion” and said that only Leicester and Leeds were “solid and effective in both boxes”.

But now, as Ipswich continue their celebration, it is Leeds who will prepare for their play-off semi-final first leg against Norwich City on Sunday.
