Evgeni Malkin’s Stanley Cup championship rings were found in his home after being reported missing following a break-in at his Pennsylvania home.
Allegheny County police say the Penguins star’s rings were found inside his Sewickley Heights home after it was burglarized Saturday while he played a game against the Senators.
All three Cup rings – from the Penguins’ championships in 2009, 2016 and 2017 – were initially thought to be missing until Thursday’s updated post, which revealed they had been located.
Allegheny County police said “this remains an active investigation.”
In a personal statement, Malkin thanked Allegheny County and Sewickley Heights police for their efforts.
“The outpouring of support and concern from my teammates and fans over the past few days means a lot to my family and me,” Malkin said.
Allegheny County police said they received a request for assistance from Sewickley Heights police on Saturday around 8:30 p.m. for a residential burglary.
A statement from county police said Malkin, returning from Saturday’s game, discovered his residence on Blackburn Road had been burglarized.
“County police are in contact with relevant law enforcement and, at this time, detectives have not received any information indicating that this incident is related to any of the reported organizations targeting professional athletes across the country,” police said.
Professional athletes are increasingly concerned about home burglaries, with these incidents becoming more frequent in recent months.
Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Tyler Seguin, Mike Conley Jr. and Bobby Portis are all among the athletes whose homes were burglarized.
An FBI bulletin released last month also warned athletes that their homes could be “targeted for burglaries due to the perception that they may have high-end goods like designer handbags, jewelry, watches and cash.”
Malkin is in his 19th season with the Penguins and has eight goals and 33 points in 42 games.
