The US administration Nomatd LT Gen Alexus G Grynkewich as the next American general in Europe and the Supreme Allied Commander of NATO in Europe (Saceur), an appointment confirmed by the Alliance on Friday.

The appointment by Trump will be particularly well received as a result of recent media reports that the United States plans to give up the role of Saceur, which has traditionally been appointed by an American president of NATO.

“This is a very important decision and there is a relief from NATO’s point of view because it is a positive sign of US engagement and staff,” said a source based in the United States with the problem in Euronews.

The American army general Dwight of Eisenhower was the first NATO sacrifice in 1951, and the role has remained with Washington since.

“At the end of the national confirmation processes, Grynkewich will take his appointment as successor to General Christopher G Cavoli, army of the United States, during a command ceremony at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Powers Europe in Mons, Belgium, expected in the summer of 2025”, a declaration from the Onto-Organ.

New targets in defense expenses adopted

Meanwhile, NATO defense ministers have agreed with a significant increase in defense capacity objectives for each country, as well as moving to spend 5% of the GDP for defense.

They agreed that 3.5% of GDP would be used for “basic defense expenses” – such as heavy weapons, tanks, air defense. Meanwhile, 1.5% of GDP per year will be spent in defense and security areas such as infrastructure, surveillance and cyber. However, the full list of flexibility has not yet been negotiated.

“These objectives describe exactly the capacities that the allies must invest in the coming years,” said NATO secretary general, Mark Rutte, journalists.

The United States has prompted NATO allies to considerably increase spending and expect to immediately see “credible progress”, according to US NATO Ambassador Mathew Whitaker.

“The threats to which NATO increase are developing and our opponents certainly do not wait for us to rear or that we are ready to take the first step”, “

“We would prefer that our allies move urgently to reach 5%,” he told journalists in a briefing on the margins of meetings.

Ambassador Whitaker also said that the United States “counts on Europe” to lead “resources necessary to achieve lasting peace” on the continent.

Rutte reiterated recent NATO warnings that Russia could strike its territory over the next two years. “If we do not act now, the next three years, we are well, but we must start now, because otherwise, from three or five years, we are really threatened,” he said.

“I really want to say that. Then you have to take out your Russian language course, or go to New Zealand,” Rutte Epmhasized.

“It’s good to have a continuity for the United States at NATO, but with Ukraine, it’s another story. I don’t think Trump really cares about Ukraine,” said the United States in Euronews.

“Trump does not care about Europe – it does not make him richer nor helps politically,” said the source.

Referring to the next NATO summit which takes place next month in The Hague, the source said that the presence of Ukraine at the top “will probably be reduced” because the United States will say: “They are not members, so they do not need to be there”.
