Instagram was very Benefiting from creating new tools for its direct email products.

During the past year, the meta-ownership platform has deployed more than 20 DMS updates, ranging from chatbots to new ways to share music with friends.

Why is Instagram so busy in the DMS? It has become the main social interaction on the application.

“When you think of Instagram, you are probably thinking of a flow of square photos, but how Instagram works has changed a lot over the years,” said Adam Mosseri, the best executive in Instagram last year. “And if you look at what people share, how people express their creativity, the main way to do it is actually DMS on Instagram.”

In March 2024, Instagram announced a handful of new messaging features, including the possibility of modifying messages after being sent and activating or deactivating receipts.

The following months were filled with various updates of Instagram DMS. Several months have seen new AI deployments, such as a series of IA characters manufactured by users in July and DM themes generated in AI in September.

Instagram also confirmed via a Mosseri thread position that he was testing the DM button, generally seen at the top right of the application, at the main navigation bar in November.

To top it all, at the beginning of 2025, Mosseri said that it would “double” on messaging when it focused on two basic priorities for the new year – creativity and connection.
