Typically, no one asks about food at a conference. So what do longevity experts eat at a longevity conference?

When leading aging and longevity scientists gathered at the 11th annual Aging Research and Drug Discovery Conference in late August, the food was good. And nutritious, writes Business Insider health correspondent Hilary Brueck.

I spoke to Hilary, who attended ARDD 2024 in Copenhagen, about the impact of diet on longevity and how her conference experience influenced her menu at home.

You’ve thought about what the participants ate at the ARDD. What can a person’s diet reveal about their longevity potential?

Diet is one thing that can impact longevity. Researchers will always say that physical activity and exercise are probably the biggest factors that impact longevity, followed by genetics. So there really isn’t a single factor that determines longevity. But it’s clear that the food you eat and the amount you eat has an impact on how your body functions.

If there was one food you would incorporate into your diet after attending the conference, what would it be?

I’m taking their energy salad concept. You can just take lettuce and top it with hummus and whatever herbs and veggies you have on hand. Personally, I love cheese, so I would probably add cheese. Making this salad with meat is relatively easy.

Meet me at the US Open

The US Open is booming. While it has always been popular, this year it has become the go-to place for celebrities, influencers and brands to make their mark in late summer.

That’s partly due to tennis’ growing cultural influence. Fashion, food and famous faces are all part of the spectacle of the US Open. And if you don’t know the difference between a game, a set and a match, don’t worry: Casual tennis fans find the Open more welcoming than most other sporting events of its caliber.

Are we still talking about tennis?

Noisy luxury

The dominance of understated luxury is coming to an end. Slightly more recognizable status symbols, like a Tiffany or Van Cleef bracelet, are in fashion right now. The same goes for items that incorporate Western and corporate influences.

Flashy logos aren’t quite in fashion yet, but they could be.

How to avoid being hungry
