Inside Out 2 Overtakes Incredibles 2 as Pixar’s Highest-Grossing Film

Joy, this is Euphoria. Inside Out 2 has become the highest-grossing film in the long and prestigious history of Pixar, the studio that created the animated phenomenon.

The hit family film has grossed $1.25 billion worldwide, surpassing the animation studio’s previous record-holder, “Incredibles 2,” which earned $1.24 billion worldwide during its run. “Inside Out 2” now ranks as the fourth-highest-grossing animated film of all time, behind “Frozen” ($1.29 billion), “Super Mario Bros. The Movie” ($1.36 billion) and “Frozen 2” ($1.45 billion). The “Frozen” franchise was marketed by Walt Disney Animation Studios, which shares a parent company with Pixar, while “Super Mario Bros. The Movie” was produced by Illumination and Universal. Expect “Inside Out 2” to continue climbing the charts, breaking records as it climbs.

Inside Out 2 has grossed $543.5 million in the United States. Its international grosses are $708 million. The sequel, which follows the emotional life of a teenage girl struggling to fit in while dealing with a growing case of social anxiety, has also been critically acclaimed. It marks a return to form for Disney and Pixar after the studios overcame a string of box office disappointments such as Lightyear, Elemental and Strange World. That’s not the case for Inside Out 2, which became the highest-grossing film of 2024. It also eclipsed the final tally of its predecessor, 2015’s Inside Out, which grossed $858.8 million worldwide during its theatrical release.

Directed by Kelsey Mann, the voice cast includes Amy Poehler, Maya Hawke, Kensington Tallman, Liza Lapira, Tony Hale, Lewis Black, Phyllis Smith, Ayo Edebiri, Lilimar, Grace Lu, Sumayyah Nuriddin-Green, and Yvette Nicole Brown. Many of them embody the emotions of the film’s teenage protagonist.
