‘Inside Out 2’ box office gross reaches $1 billion in record time

Pixar and Disney Inside Out 2 has a big weekend ahead of it as it prepares to close out June by becoming the first film of 2024 to cross the $1 billion mark in worldwide ticket sales. It is expected to accomplish the feat on Sunday or Monday, faster than any animated film in history, in 17 to 18 days.

It will also have no trouble resisting the competition and remaining number 1 from its third outing ahead of A Quiet Place: Part One and Kevin Costner’s ambitious, $100 million period western, Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter One.

Nobody expected it Upside Down 2 – which follows Riley as she turns 13 and is faced with a new team of emotions that must coexist with her other emotions – to become the must-see film of the year so far, just like Barbie did it almost a year ago. In doing so, film attendance is generally increasing (Sony’s Bad Boys: Ride or Diewhich opened a week before Upside downstarted the rebound).

A quiet place: first day is expected to open to between $40 million and $45 million, a strong performance for a prequel that doesn’t feature the series’ original stars, including John Krasinski — who also served as writer-director — and Emily Blunt. Instead, Michael Sarnoski directed the prequel based on a story he and Krasinski came up with together. Lupita Nyong’o and Thomas Quinn star.

Horizon is undoubtedly the biggest curiosity factor of the weekend given that Costner left behind a lucrative gig on Taylor Sheridan’s hit series Yellow stone to realize his decades-long passion project, four period westerns. Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter One is on track to open to between $10 million and $12 million, a worrying start for a three-hour film costing $100 million to produce. Many box office experts believe that the film will outperform in America’s heartland and achieve a better position.

Warners agreed to distribute and market the film for a fee in the United States. Costner – who tirelessly promoted the film – invested $38 million of his own money, while two mystery investors also put in equity. The rest comes from the sale of foreign rights with the help of sales company K5 International, which previewed the film at the Cannes Film Festival.

Horizon: An American Saga: Chapter Two opens August 16 in one of the most unusual distribution schemes in Hollywood history. (Costner also put up most of the marketing money.)

Inside Out 2 has broken numerous records since it began its worldwide release just over two weeks ago, helping to revive 2024’s lagging box office and turn June gloom into June bloom.

Breaking News: On Tuesday, it landed at No. 10 on the list of the highest-grossing animated films of all time at the domestic box office with $387.8 million in revenue. Overseas, it finished the day with a total of $411.9 million for a worldwide haul of $798.2 million, just behind Shrek the Third ($799.5 million).

Frozen II, from Pixar’s sister division Walt Disney Animation Studios, is the highest-grossing animated film of the time, grossing $1.45 billion worldwide. The latest animated film to surpass $1 billion is from Illumination and Universal. The Super Mario Bros. movie. in 2023, while the last Pixar title to do so was Incredibles 2 in 2019.

Inside Out 2 will become only the eleventh film to cross the $100 billion mark, and the seventh from Pixar or Walt Disney Animation.
