Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’ Infowars media empire will be shut down and sold, a bankruptcy court-appointed trustee said Sunday in an emergency court filing, signaling the end of the popular far-right media outlet which Jones used to spread dangerous misinformation and lies. .

Earlier this month, a bankruptcy judge ruled that Jones’ personal assets would be liquidated to help pay the nearly $1.5 billion he owed to the families of victims of the Sandy Hook massacre. But at that time, the judge ruled that Jones’ media company Free Speech Systems, Infowars’ parent company, would not be liquidated, in part because the process would be lengthy and expensive.

The dismissal of the bankruptcy case against the store meant the families were free to go after Jones’ assets, including Infowars, in state court. Since Jones is the owner of Free Speech Systems, a court-appointed administrator was put in charge of the company.

The administrator wrote Sunday that since his appointment, he “began planning to liquidate (Free Speech Systems’) operations and inventory.”

But the administrator said the process was “derailed” when one of the Sandy Hook victim’s parents filed a petition in a Texas district court seeking custody of all Free Speech Systems assets , including Infowars.

As a result, Jones’ trustee asked the bankruptcy judge for an emergency stay in the case to allow him to conduct an “orderly process of liquidation and sale” of Infowars.

In a statement, Christopher Mattei, attorney for the Sandy Hook families of Connecticut in favor of liquidating the company, said: “This is precisely the unfortunate situation that the Connecticut families hoped to avoid when we argued that the Free case Speech Systems/InfoWars should have remained in bankruptcy court rather than being fired.

“Connecticut families are disappointed by this attempt to undermine the orderly and long-awaited liquidation of Alex Jones’ InfoWars platform,” Mattei said, referring to an attempt by a group of parents to go after the assets of the FSS. “From the beginning, they have led with dignity toward a resolution that is fair for each family and are grateful that the Chapter 7 Administrator has already filed a motion – with which eight of the nine families agree – supporting a fair distribution of assets of the FSS. .”

Jones, who earlier this month celebrated the judge’s decision not to liquidate Infowars’ parent company, acknowledged that Infowars would likely only continue broadcasting for a few more months.

“I’m going to try to move forward and maximize the amount of money we can make from Infowars and then end the liquidation,” Jones said outside the courthouse after the hearing rejecting the liquidation of his company.
