Indianapolis mass shooting leaves 7 children wounded – NBC Chicago

Seven youths aged 12 to 17 were injured in a shooting outside a downtown Indianapolis shopping center Saturday evening, police said.

Officers patrolling the area heard gunshots near the Circle Center mall shortly after 11:30 p.m., said Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Deputy Chief Tanya Terry.

Officers found “a large group of juveniles” at the scene, six of whom had gunshot wounds and were transported to area hospitals, Terry said during a press briefing at the scene early Sunday morning.

One of the victims was upgraded from critical to stable condition. The other victims were all listed in stable condition, said Terry, who was not immediately able to provide the gender of the victims.

A seventh minor with gunshot wounds arrived separately at the hospital and was in stable condition, she said.

“Once again we are faced with a situation where young people are resolving conflicts with guns, and this must stop,” Terry said, later adding: “Conflict should not lead someone to pull out a gun and try to solve it. The consequences are eternal.

Investigators believe more than one gun was used in the shooting, Terry said.

No arrests have been made and police have found no suspects, she said.
