Indian men’s recurve team reaches final – Firstpost

India will face South Korean trio Kim Woojin, Lee Woo Seok and Kim Je Deok, gold medalists at the Tokyo Olympics, in the gold medal match scheduled for Sunday.

The Indian men’s recurve team on Thursday qualified for the final of the first stage of the Archery World Cup after beating Italy. The Indian team comprising Tarundeep Rai, Dhiraj Bommadevara and Pravin Jadhav are assured of a medal after reaching the final and beating Italy 5-1 without dropping a set to set up a summit clash against leading South Korea series.

The top-seeded Korean trio beat Chinese Taipei rivals Tan Chih-Chun, Lin Zih-Siang and Tai Yu-Hsuan in straight sets 6-0.

Earlier, after securing a first-round bye in the season-opening tournament, the second-seeded Indians overcame a first-set deficit to beat 15th-seeded Indonesia 5 -3 in their tricky opening clash.

They were back to their best against seventh-seeded Spain, starting off by a single point before securing a 5-1 victory to advance to the semi-finals.

The Indian women’s team of Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat and Bhajan Kaur, who secured sixth place in the qualifiers, put up a below-par show and lost a 3-1 lead to travel to Mexico in the of his opening confrontation.

Having earned a bye in the first round, the Indian women’s team took a 3-1 lead in the second set. But their scores were below average as they lost 3-5.

They hit twice in the red 7 ring in the first set, while in the third set they went down to the sixth ring and hit two eights in the final set.
